Gotta PTA question??? Hopefully, we have the answer and if we
don't we will try to find out!
don't we will try to find out!
1. What is PTA?
Wintergreen Primary is an incredible place to be....and it is because of two groups of people...PARENTS and TEACHERS! PTA is the parent-teacher-association, we are a parent group who's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. (https://www.pta.org/home/About-National-Parent-Teacher-Association/Mission-Values) The North Carolina PTA (NCPTA) is the state’s oldest and largest volunteer organization advocating for the education, health, safety and success of all children and youth while building strong families and communities. (http://ncpta.org/index.php/about-us/)
2. What does PTA do?
WGP PTA works to meet the needs at Wintergreen Primary. Some of the things the PTA does at Wintergreen are:
- work with the administration/staff to identify areas of need for larger projects and then work to raise funds to achieve these goals
- plan and host special events for parents, students and staff
- provide support for teachers through supply money, grants and other various opportunities
- be part of a solution to the need to volunteers throughout the school by matching up peoples abilities to the needs in the buildings
- treat the teachers and staff with special meals, treats and duty free lunches thanks to our amazing army of volunteers!
- HAVE FUN! Thanks to a wonderful administration, hard working staff and dedicated volunteers our PTA is able to do some fun things along the way for our student body.
3. How can I get involved?
ANY parent, grandparent, teacher, school staff member, or community member can join PTA. Anyone who cares about children and the school belongs in the PTA! Check out the 10 Myths About Joining PTA (Download File) Once you have decided to join and be part of the PTA simply go to the membership link for how to join. If you have any questions or we can assist you please email us at wgppta@gmail.com (WGP). We are happy to help!
4. What does it cost and where do my dues go?
The PTA dues are as follows: $10 for a couple, $7 for an individual and $5 for a Wintergreen staff member. Parts of those dues go different places, $2.25 per member goes to the national PTA and $1.75 per member goes to the NC PTA. Wintergreen PTA's are set up to be as affordable as possible, as to allow any and every interested parent to be an active and involved part of their child(ren)'s school and PTA.
5. I have joined PTA, what do I have to do now?
That is completely up to YOU! While we have lots (and lots) of opportunities that require volunteers we are aware that not everyone is able to volunteer. We try to have many different types of volunteer opportunities throughout the year such as covering duty-free lunches as a treat for staff, sending in food and other things for various events, picture day helpers, different fundraising events and other opportunities throughout the year. If you are able to volunteer you can choose how much or how little you commit. If you are not able to volunteer, you may help just by simply passing along a sign up sheet.
If you are not able to volunteer but are able to financially help, we welcome that as well! Every year each PTA is working toward a "large project" goal and can always use help with that. If you are able to write grants that you think may benefit the school or PTA please let us know, that may be another way you can help.
Everyone has something they are able to give or do, it is just different for each person. If you have an idea please let us know!
6. How and why does PTA FUNdraise?
Each PTA does its own fundraising and we try to make it as easy as possible! Each PTA is working on a "large project" and also has a yearly budget to pay for materials, supplies, hospitality, teacher support and other expenses. Each PTA will always be open to accepting a donation (either monetary, service or supplies) from an individual parent or an organization, business or agency. We are a non profit agency so all donations are tax deductible. In addition to donations, each PTA organizes and manages one or two fundraisers each year. Please check the Fundraiser (http://www.wintergreenpta.com/fundraising.html) page for more information on the current years fundraisers. We always appreciate your support!
7. What happens each year and when?
There are some things that happen at Wintergreen that happen most every year but are always subject to change. School pictures happen in the fall and the spring, individual pictures are taken both times while class pictures are only taken in spring. These make great keepsakes for parents as we all know children grow and change so fast! The PE teachers have a field day each year in the spring, K-2 has their day separate from 3-5. Both days and awesome staffs provide for lots of FUN! The media center will also host a book fair or two during the year along with other activities that encourage reading and art. Please remember, these are all things the school sets up and decides on, not the PTA. We do our best to help and provide volunteers when needed and appreciate all the hard work both schools staffs do each year.
